DISTRIBUTIONAL DIVERSITY OF FRUIT FLY (DIPTERA: TEPHRITIDAE) FROM FRUITS ORCHARD OF DISTRICT MULTAN, PUNJAB, PAKISTAN.

Fruit fly is an economically important pest of fruits and vegetables worldwide that attacking all over the tropical and sub-tropical regions in the world. In Pakistan it has great economic importance due to heavy damages to fruits and for an estimated about $200 million losses caused annually. Fruits injuries due to fruit flies varied with species and host plant. This study was carried out to determine fruit flies diversity and distribution from major fruits orchard of district Multan. For the collection of specimen baited traps of methyl eugenol and spinosad mixture were used in citrus, mango, guava, and ber orchards in different localities of district Multan. A total of adult fruit flies (1027) were trapped. Specimens were identified up to species level as the result three important fruit fly species like Bactrocera zonata, B. dorsalis, and B. cucurbitae were identified. Identification keys and photography of adult were also provided.
