The article is devoted to the analysis of the main aspects of comparative studies as the leading scientific strategy of humanitarian knowledge. The author defines the concept of "comparative studies", explores various interpretations of the subject and object, as well as the history of the formation of this area of philology in Russia and abroad. The main attention is focused on the consideration of modern comparative theory based on globalization, intertext and dialogue of cultures.
