“IMPACT OF STRUCTURED TEACHING PROGRAMME ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING JANANI SHISHU SURAKSHA YOJANA AMONG MOTHERS AT TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL KARAD”

Back Ground of the Study: The utilization of any scheme depends on the awareness among the beneficiaries. Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana is a safe mother and childhood intervention scheme under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) being implemented with the objective of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality by promoting institutional delivery among the poor pregnant women. Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana (JSSY) under the overall umbrella of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) is being proposed by way of modifying the existing National Maternity Benefit Scheme (NMBS). In view of the difficulty being faced by the pregnant women and parents of sick new-born along with high expenditure on delivery and treatment of sick newborn, Ministry of health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) has taken a major initiative to ensure better facilities for women and child health services. It is an initiative to provide completely free and cashless services to pregnant women including normal deliveries and caesarean operations and sick newborn (up to 30 days after birth) in Government health institutions in both rural and urban areas. All the states and Union Territories have initiated implemented of the scheme. The objective of the present study was to assess the Pre test knowledge regarding Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana (J.S.S.Y) among antenatal mothers and Postnatal mothers In Krishna Hospital, Karad. Methods: One group pre test & post-test pre experimental research design. Simple Random sampling technique is adopted for selecting the samples. Total 50 samples selected for this study from ANC OPD of Krishna Hospital, Karad. Results: Majority of antenatal or postnatal mothers admitted in Krishna Hospital, Karad 43 (86%) had Average level of knowledge about Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana, whereas 7 (14%) of antenatal or postnatal mothers had Poor knowledge and no-one had Good knowledge regarding Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana before administration of structured teaching programme. The post-test depicts that majority of antenatal or postnatal mothers admitted in Krishna Hospital, Karad 49 (98%) had Good level of knowledge about Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana, whereas only 1 (2%) of antenatal or postnatal mothers had Average knowledge and no-one had Poor knowledge regarding Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana before administration of structured teaching programme. Interpretation & conclusions: This study focused on the Mean, Median and Standard Deviation of knowledge scores of antenatal or postnatal mothers regarding Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana. Pre Test score is 15.92 Post Test score is 28.92 it shows STP was effective. It shows that the Structured Teaching Programme is effective method for the knowledge of antenatal or postnatal mothers regarding Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana.
