WOMEN’S REPRESENTATION IN LOCAL-SELF GOVERNMENT OF KAMRUP METRO WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO GUWAHATI CITY

Local government in India mainly functions in cities and town through municipal institutions which include municipal corporations, councils, municipal town and notified area committee. Participation of women in political sphere is global issue and their place in decision making process at most of the countries of the world. The concept of women’s participation in the politics have become a central point of discussions, women have the ability and attitude to lead a society in right and welfare path, if given an opportunity to them. However most of women are not aware of their civil and political rights and also the system of local self government though they constitute half of the population. The effectual participation of women in local self government can strengthen the system overall. This research paper attempts to understand the local self government in Kamrup Metro and participation of women in it.
