HISTORICAL GATES OF THE CITY OF SAMARKAND (BETWEEN IX AND XV CENTURIES)

The history of Samarkand goes back thousands of years. A stormy, sometimes dramatic and brilliant history was destined for Samarkand from the first days of its existence. Samarkand was a large city with a populous population, developed crafts, trade and culture. It had an impregnable citadel and an outer defensive wall about ten and a half kilometers long. This research paper is based on the works of historians Samarkand surrounded by walls of 12 farsakhs (72 kilometers) with 12 gates. Thus, the city gates were built of wood and consisted of two halves.
