BACKROUND OF THE STUDY : The gleno humeral internal rotation deficit(GIRD) is related to the altered in shoulder external rotation and internal rotation range and muscles strength . It has been documented as a risk factor for Non contact shoulder injuries in overhead sports like volleyball. The restricted shoulder range of motion and rotators strength affects performance of the player. How ever few studies have investigates the effect of exercise training on these parameters in volleyball players with gird ,therefore the purpose of this to evaluate the effect of 6 weeks Resisted exercise and Eccentric exercise with a thera band for retraining Shoulder Rotation joint range of motion and rotators muscles strength. METHOD:A comparative study was conducted with 30 volleyball players with GIRD , selected based on the convenient sampling in which GROUP A consisting of 15 players of resisted exercise and GROUP B consisting of 15 players of eccentric exercise with thera band for the duration 6 weeks. The outcome measures used in this study were universal goniometer and hand grip dynamometer . RESULTS: Group B shows significantly shows improvement in ROM and Hand grip strength than Group A. The p values obtained is lesser than 0.05. Hence the null hypothesis is rejected . CONCLUSION: This study proved that eccentric exercise with thera band showed a significant improvement in improving internal rotation ROM and Handgrip strength in GIRD shoulder volleyball players.
