TiO2 nanoparticles have been synthesized by hydrothermal method. As-prepared TiO2 nanoparticles were characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy techniques to analyse the structural, morphological and optical properties. XRD pattern confirms the formation of rutile-phased nanoparticles. The average crystallite size was found to be 6.8 nm. SEM micrographs reveals the irregular shaped spherical like structures with little agglomerations. UV-vis absorptions spectrum shows the absorption edge at UV region. Further, the synthesized nanoparticles used to examine the photocatalytic activity over MB dye. The photocatalytic activity of the TiO2 nanoparticles is about 88% under UV light irradiation.
